Our Springfield Bayonet is a socket bayonet which was an improvement over the earlier plug bayonets. Socket Bayonets were made with a socket that fitted over the barrel of the musket and had a slot which slid past the fore sight. The Springfield Bayonet is a later period bayonet that has a locking catch. The blade is offset to one side allowing the soldier to load the musket. Our high quality Springfield Bayonet is a replica of the Bayonet that was used during the US Civil War. The bayonet blade is made from hand forged high carbon tempered steel.
The scabbard is crafted from robust black leather, designed to securely hold and protect the bayonet's steel blade. The leather is reinforced with period-accurate copper rivets arranged in a distinctive pattern along the upper section, adding both historical authenticity and durability. At the tip, a brass chape enhances the scabbard’s historical appearance while providing extra protection against wear. The design is faithful to the scabbards used by Union infantry during the Civil War, offering both a practical and historically accurate means of carrying the bayonet.
