Specifications

The Model 1902 saber remains the current ceremonial sword pattern worn by U.S. Army Infantry Officers. It is most often seen during formal military ceremonies, parades, presentations, changes of command, and officer functions. The M1902 design was the result of more than 25 years of study and refinement between Henry V. Allien & Company and John Cunningham Kelton, an Army Adjutant General and accomplished swordsman. Early prototype designs were influenced by European military sabers. Kelton recommended reducing the curve of the blade to improve its thrusting ability, helping shape the final form of the Model 1902 saber.

Early examples often featured dark-stained wood grips, with some using horn. Later versions replaced these organic grip materials with Bakelite, an early form of plastic. This reproduction uses a faux-ebony grip to capture the formal look of the traditional officer’s saber.
