The French Cuirassier Saber stands as one of the most formidable cavalry swords of the Napoleonic Wars. Known for its imposing size and battlefield authority, this reproduction captures the strength and presence of the heavy cavalry weapons carried by Napoleon’s elite armored horsemen.

Forged from tempered EN9 high carbon steel, the blade features a commanding double fuller and period-style markings inspired by original examples from the Klingenthal state manufactory in eastern France. Designed for the shock of a cavalry charge, the broad blade delivers both powerful thrusting capability and devastating downward cuts from horseback.

The hilt is crafted from solid brass, paired with a hardened brown leather grip tightly wrapped in copper wire for a secure and traditional feel. A steel scabbard completes this battle-ready presentation.

The French Cuirassiers were the heavy cavalry elite of Napoleon’s Grande Armée. Known as the "Iron Men" by the Russians, they wore thick steel cuirasses and helmets and were selected from the largest, most powerful men and horses available. Their favored weapon was the straight-bladed heavy saber— a throwback to medieval knightly arms.

The thunderous cavalry charge of the Cuirassiers could break enemy formations and alter the tide of battle. Firearms were secondary to these cavalrymen; cold steel was their true instrument of decision.

A French Cuirassier saber even saw action during the American Civil War, famously wielded by Southern Lt. Col. Frederick Skinner at the Battle of Manassas, where he led a dramatic mounted charge against an artillery position, striking down a gunner and disrupting the battery long enough for his regiment to close and secure victory.

Massive, commanding, and steeped in history, the French Cuirassier Saber is a statement piece worthy of serious Napoleonic collectors and reenactors. Its substantial weight, long reach, and heavy cavalry profile embody the shock tactics that defined an era of warfare. Whether displayed proudly or worn as part of a full Cuirassier impression, this saber delivers authentic presence and battlefield heritage.
