The Legacy Arms Templar Knight Sword pays tribute to the famous Knights Templar, an esteemed Western Christian military order that existed during the Middle Ages. Founded in the aftermath of the First Crusade in 1096, the Order aimed to protect European pilgrims traveling to Jerusalem after its conquest. Endorsed by the Roman Catholic Church in 1129, the Templars became a prominent charity throughout Europe, known for their white mantles adorned with a red cross.
Templar knights were renowned for their skill in combat during the Crusades, while non-combatant members managed a vast economic infrastructure, pioneering early forms of banking and constructing fortifications across Europe and the Holy Land. However, the Templars' success was closely tied to the Crusades, and as the Crusaders faced defeats and lost control of the Holy Land, support for the Order waned.
Rumors of the Templars' secret initiation ceremony led to mistrust, and King Philip IV of France, heavily indebted to the Order, pressured Pope Clement V to take action. In 1307, King Philip had many Templar members arrested, tortured, and coerced into false confessions before being burned at the stake.
