Our Medieval Kite Shield is a very durable Battle-ready shield for practical use in LARP, historical reenactments and HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts). Available in different sizes.
Each shield is constructed with three 3mm thick beach plywood and covered with 2 layers of thick heavy tent grade canvas. The canvas not only helps the structural integrity of the shield, it also helps absorb the blows. The rear of the shield is covered with thinner canvas to hide the plywood. The outer rim of each shield is covered in hardened rawhide that is sewn to the wood. This helps protect the shield’s edge from splitting.
The sturdy leather hand and arm straps are riveted with iron rivets to the shield. These rivets are annealed so you can easily change a strap or wooden rib that might need replacing.
Sturdy and dependable, these medieval shields will hold up to battle under normal use and each scar on the shield can be proudly displayed as a badge of honor. Please note: stabbing from spears or war hammers can damage your shield, just as they did in the middle ages.
Each Heater Shield comes pre-painted in standard colors (brown, black, green, blue, red, natural linen), allowing you to paint your own emblem or coat of arms.

Shield Maintenance: If you battle in rain, your shield needs to dry slowly to prevent warping. Let it stand in a well ventilated place (in the shade) so fresh air can reach both sides of the shield. Do not dry in direct sunlight, by a fire or heater. This could warp your shield.
