By The Sword, Inc. - Roman Maintz Gladius Sword

Most Early versions of the Roman Gladius were wasp waisted with a long point that combined cutting power and stabbing ability in one handy weapon. Some of the later versions (Like our Generation2/Legacy Arms version) were made with a straighter blade but still with the long point. Even later versions (like the Pompeii pattern) were not waisted and also had a shorter point but were just as effective - and easier to make. Both swords served side-by-side for many years and it was not uncommon to find 4th century Legionnaires carrying either models. The gladius is known as "the sword that conquered the world". High carbon blade, hard wood handle. High polished steel spacer at the bottom of the handle for strength and durability.

- Note -...The blade is 3/16" high carbon spring steel with a full hefty tang. We tested it on several 2"x4" standing up and split them with no marring on the blade. We then tested it on a 2"x4" cross ways resting on each side on a solid rest and came straight down. It did not cut all the way through but it did cut deep and again did not mar the blade or edge. We then went to the ultimate test- Steel-to-Steel. We did 9 good blows, it nicked the blade but did not break the blade not break the tang or handle in either of these test.

I have to start out by saying that despite any bad "reviews" or "opinions" I should say, By The Sword were MORE than willing to live up to their end of our business transactions, and hog my Legacy Arms Gladius to me via FedEx in under 5 days.....AND they got it to me in under 5 days even though Hurricae Irma screwed up deliveries up and down the East Coast of the U.S and By The Sword even lost power for most of that 5 days. Goes to show you, you CANNOT believe everything you read online! Their customer service agent was friendly/professional and walked me through the ordering process step-at-a time despite me being a little slow. The Gladius showed up ahead if time, and was wrapped SO well and protected that I almost needed another sword to open it (joking of course!). The handle was different from the picture, speckled instead of solid black, but I know that Legacy Arms released an "alternate" version after the solid black, wooden handle had been out for a few years. I have ordered swords from Amazon, Kult if Athena, Sword Buyers Guide, and even a Forge I deal personally with in China.....but By The Sword preformed just as good, if not better, then these other sword dealers I mentioned. GREAT sword from a GREAT company! Do yourself the favor and order this sword (or any sword) from By The Sword.......you'll regret if if you don't!
