Scroll down if you just want a review of the sword. Otherwise, I have to start this review by saying stellar service! I was skeptical cause I never ordered from By the Sword inc. Some websites have warned against it but the sale price was too desirable to pass up. Upon ordering I received a follow up to verify my addresses as they are different, which I found to be a thorough step. In all honestly it was nice to hear from someone and know I had quick contact with human communication if need be. Their customer service is ready and waiting and I appreciate that. My order shipped within a day of that and I had it within two days of that. All in all it was 5 days from my order (which was on a weekend) to having been received. They even reached out to me on a Sunday. That’s fast and fantastic service. I believe this company is very legit and trying to be competitive and working hard to do so. They have now entered the radar for all my future sword purchases! As for the sword, I have many swords. Admittedly this is my first hanger/cutlass. My wife is on a pirate kick so I took advantage of the excitement and ordered one! This sword is gorgeous. It is easily the best hanger/cutlass in the price range. I did quite a bit of research, outside of custom made, this is probably the best on the market. This hanger sword really wowed me. The balance is impeccable, it’s light and super wieldable. Really nice steel, I like 1566 in general, and very straight! I just want to keep swinging it around like I’m Captain Vane! I normally collect Viking era and Chinese martial art swords but now I’m hooked, on pirate swords. Argh, get it! Hooked! The fit and finish are fantastic. The sheath is perfect and no wiggle or jiggle! Mine came very sharp, I read it came dull on other sights. Every one of my Hanwei swords have come extremely sharp out of box. I have a belt grinder so I can put an edge on anything and I have had zero need and that’s on a dozen or so. I love the simplicity yet complexity of this blade. The antiquing is a very nice touch and adds a protective quality. I can sword fight as I have spent over 20 years in martial arts including many years in sword arts, and this may be my battle sword now! I see what it’s called a hanger! Its hangs so neatly in the side out of the way compared to a Viking era sword. I have a revolutionary war outfit this will pair perfectly with as well! Very impressed and highly recommend this sword.
