Developed early in the 12th century, the Crusader Great Helm became the mainstay of the Medieval fighting man and lasted for about 300 years. Sometimes worn over a smaller helmet and mail, this beautiful helmet with its menacing, narrow eye slits was a strong, tough steel helmet fully capable of absorbing the shock of combat. If you are not planing to use padding in the helm, an optional leather suspension liner is available. The Crusader Great Helm is made from 16 gauge steel. Well worth the money and the wait. I own other helms and this one is by far the highest quality. I had it custom fit and it fit perfectly without adjusting. I am very impressed. It looks like it belongs in a museum!
I am really impressed with mine. I bought it several years ago and it was customized to my facial dimensions (accurately). They were also kind enough to add a chin strap for me upon request.
