By The Sword Catalog : Collectibles : Pirate Weaponry

Pirate Weapons
Pirates of the 18th century typically carried a flintlock pistol and a cutlass or a combination of both! The short-bladed cutlass was at home among the rigging and cluttered decks of a sailing ship, where a longer sword would have been at a disadvantage and the pistol, having been discharged, could be tucked into the belt until an opportunity for reloading presented itself. This page shows the full range of Denix weapons for the 'practically' inclined, including several displaying the dreaded skull and crossbones emblem of these buccaneers of the sea.
