Lochaber Axe Ref: AH-3531 The Lochaber Axe was a Scottish war Axe that came into use around 1600. The name of the weapon derives from Lochaber, an area in the Scottish Highlands. This weapon was used mainly by Scottish highlanders and so it became known as the Lochaber Axe. The axe itself like many other medieval pole weapons is similar to farming tools used for crops, such as the scythe, which is designed for reaping. The hook on the back resembles a smaller hook that may have been used to lift and carry tied bundles of a harvested crop. It is possible, then, that Lochaber axes, like the billhook, served a dual purpose as both weapons and farming tools. Our Lochaber Axe is made from forged carbon steel and attatched to a hardwood shaft.MEASUREMENTS: Head 19 3/4", Pole 42"
